Reading Programs

Reading Programs

Not every child learns the same way — and not every reading program fits every child. That's why I am trained in multiple structured literacy programs, so I can meet your child exactly where they are and use the approach that works best for them.

All of the programs I use are grounded in the Science of Reading and follow a systematic, explicit approach to literacy instruction.

Not sure which program is right for your child?
That's what I'm here for. During our free consultation, I'll get to know your child and recommend the best fit for their needs.

UFLI Foundations

UFLI Foundations
Developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute, UFLI Foundations is a structured phonics program designed for kindergarten through second grade. It teaches letter-sound relationships in a carefully sequenced order, building decoding and spelling skills step by step. It is one of the most widely respected structured literacy programs available today.

Best for:

  • Early readers in kindergarten through second grade who are just beginning their phonics journey

  • Children who need a clear, predictable sequence to build confidence with letters and sounds

  • Kids who benefit from a structured routine in every session

Heggerty

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum
Heggerty is a structured, sequential phonemic awareness program that focuses entirely on building a child's ability to hear and manipulate sounds in spoken language. Through short, engaging daily lessons, children develop the foundational listening skills that make phonics instruction stick.

Best for:

  • Children who need to strengthen their phonemic awareness before or alongside phonics instruction

  • Early learners in pre-K through second grade who are still developing sound awareness skills

  • Kids who know their letters but struggle to blend or segment sounds when reading and spelling

A note on how I use Heggerty:
Heggerty works hand in hand with the other programs I use. Because phonemic awareness is the foundation that phonics builds on, I often incorporate Heggerty lessons alongside UFLI or Reading Mastery to make sure your child's sound skills are solid before — and while — we work on connecting those sounds to print. Think of it as building the foundation while we construct the house.

EBLI

EBLI (Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction)
EBLI is a fast-moving, highly effective literacy program built on the science of how the brain learns to read. It uses a unique approach to connecting sounds, letters, and meaning simultaneously — making it especially powerful for children who have struggled with more traditional reading instruction.

Best for:

  • Children who have tried other reading programs but are still struggling to make progress

  • Kids who need to close a reading gap quickly and efficiently

  • Learners who do well with multi-sensory, hands-on instruction that engages them actively in every lesson

  • Children who have been identified with dyslexia or other reading challenges

A note on EBLI:
EBLI is a complete, standalone literacy program and is not used alongside other reading programs at the same time. Because of its unique approach to connecting sounds, letters, and meaning, mixing it with another program at the same time can interfere with your child's progress and create confusion. When I use EBLI with your child, it is the sole focus of our reading instruction — and that focused approach is a big part of what makes it so effective. Heggerty phonemic awareness lessons may still be incorporated as a warm-up tool, as they support the foundational skills EBLI builds on.

My EBLI Status: Practitioner in Training
I am currently completing my official EBLI training under the guidance of a certified EBLI instructor. As part of this training, I am actively teaching EBLI to students — meaning your child receives real, hands-on EBLI instruction while I work toward full certification. My sessions are reviewed and supported throughout the training process to ensure quality and fidelity to the program.

What this means for your family:
You get access to one of the most effective structured literacy programs available at a reduced rate — without sacrificing the quality of instruction. It's a win for your child and a great opportunity to get started before my fully certified rates go into effect.

Reading Mastery (SRA)

EReading Mastery
Reading Mastery is a Direct Instruction program with decades of research behind it. It uses a precise, scripted teaching method to ensure every skill is taught clearly and consistently. It is particularly effective for children who need a highly structured, step-by-step approach to build reading fluency and comprehension.

Best for:

  • Children who need a high level of structure and repetition to retain new skills

  • Kids who are significantly behind grade level and need to build foundational skills from the ground up

  • Learners who thrive with immediate corrective feedback and consistent reinforcement

  • Children with learning differences who benefit from a very explicit, no-gaps approach to instruction
